Forest Schools

“A child carrying sticks and rocks is usually carrying curiosity too”.

At Irlam Endowed, we are entering a new chapter where Forest School will become part of the curriculum for every child who attends our school. Forest School is an approach to learning that is based outdoors in the natural environment. The ethos is to provide opportunities for children to develop through child-led play and exploration.

At Irlam Endowed, we believe this will enhance our children’s experience to develop practical skills, work collaboratively and respectfully together, strengthen problem solving skills and critical thinking and understanding safe risk taking all whilst in a controlled environment on our school grounds.

As your child goes through school, they will take part in a range of activities within the Forest School environment. These may include:

  • Den building
  • Nature crafts using natural materials
  • Tool use
  • Wildlife exploration
  • Outdoor cooking/ supervised fires
  • Games

Our personal development offer is to allow us to support the development of the whole child and the activities that can be delivered through Forest School can support and strengthen many skills for all children such as:

  • Confidence building
  • Self esteem
  • Independence and resilience
  • Communication and teamwork
  • Physical activity and coordination
  • Promoting nature as a way to support emotional wellbeing
  • Inspiring curiosity, creativity and imagination.
  • Developing respect for nature and the environment.

What might your child do at Forest School?
