Top Tips for Talking

Dear Parents and Practitioner,

Following on from the launch of Starting Life Well (the new name for Early Years support  in Salford) on 23rd September we are delighted to invite you to join in our 15 Top Tips for Talking promotion which is part of Salford's contribution to the Year of Communication.

2011is the National Year of Speech, Language and Communication - www.hello.org.uk  The Hello campaign will make communication for all children and young people a priority in homes and schools across the country in 2011, so that they can live life to the full.

Why do we need to help children in Salford to develop their speech, language and communication skills?

Children don't learn to talk by accident.

A child's vocabulary at 3 is a powerful indicator of how well they will achieve in later life.

This is how we would like you to help:

Each week, for 15 weeks we will be sending you 1 Top Tip to focus on for that week.  If everyone - practitioners, parents, grand parents & other relations and significant adults, follow that Top Tip it will become second nature and you will then be ready to add another Top Tip the following week and so on until there has been a focus on all 15 Top Tips. If you all use these Top Tips when talking to children you will make a difference to every child in Salford.

Starting life well begins with good communication.
